From Waste to Power
The Bikarac Waste Management Center was built as a regional waste disposal facility for the Šibenik-Knin County in accordance with the national waste management strategy and European regulations. The project to establish the Center began in 2005, and the facility has been in operation since 2021. It covers an area of about 27 ha and has a total capacity of 53 000 t of waste per year.
The Bikarac WMC already produces waste-to-energy fuel (WTF), which, due to the lack of infrastructure for energy recovery from waste, is exported and used elsewhere. However, this should change with the construction of a power plant, i.e. the Bikarac Cogeneration Plant. This will also enable the closure of the waste management cycle in the Šibenik-Knin County and all surrounding counties: from collection and treatment, through fuel production, to its energy use.
